Shibori Silk Ribbon
Catalog > Shibori Silk Ribbon
Our Silk Shibori ribbons are carefully hand dyed using Shibori technique by Fabric Artist and founder of Shibori Girl Studios, Glennis Dolce. Shibori is a dye technique that originated in Japan in which fabric is that is bound, twisted, sewn and/or wrapped around an object then dyed to create stunning effects. The term "Shibori" is a Japanese term that means to resist dying in shapes. The result is similar to "tie-die". This technique is applied to 4” bias cut 100% silk satin ribbon, which is carefully pole wrapped and dyed and over-dyed multiple times to create stunning, vibrant color variations between the pleats and throughout the ribbon resulting a three dimensional work of art!
In it's original state, the ribbon will be pleated and stay this way unless you choose to wet, steam or iron the pleats out. The ribbons are about 1" wide with the pleats intact and about 4" wide when the pleats are pulled apart. The pleating can be kept as is, or altered with light steaming to "relax" the fabric, or completely removed by using a steam iron. Use Shibori ribbon for floral work, apparel, millinery, quilting and more!
